Barbara Helfrick

Cannington

Barbara Helfrick was born and raised in Francis, Saskatchewan. In 1988, Barb fell in love with and began her profession in health care as a nurse’s aide at Souris Valley Extended Care Centre. While attending SIAST’S Diploma Nursing Program in Regina, Ms. Helfrick maintained her CCA job in Weyburn. In 1993, Barb graduated as a Registered Nurse and is now in her 36th year of her healthcare career.

In the summer of 2023, Barbara ‘temporarily’ retired from nursing, where she accepted the position as a mental health counselor for Southeast Regional College. During her tenure within the college, she created policies and guidelines for mental health services. Realizing nursing was her fit, she resumed her nursing duties and eventually returned to psychiatric care at Tatagwa view.

Barb cherishes her two amazing children. After her oldest child was diagnosed with autism/Fragile X Barb’s life took a new path. Barbara devoted herself and became determined to learn about autism and advocate for her son. That passion for knowledge and educating others saw her invited to teach others in the education system, speaking with MLAs and with provincial ministers advocating for parents and autistic children.

Because she believes in and loves this province that we call home, Ms. Helfrick wants to be a part of the team that can revive this great province back to its full potential. She is passionate about repairing the disconnect between the ministries and providing a more fluent service system, especially in health care.

Ms. Helfrick will advocate for you and the province with the same determination she has for her family.
